Packers Plus technology has made a major impact on productivity in recent years, but these same technological advances have also enabled operators to reduce their environmental impact by using open hole multi-stage systems.

Multi-laterals

Packers Plus technology enables operators to complete multiple wells from a single surface location minimizing surface impact and allowing for development in areas previously inaccessible. Multi-laterals result in a smaller surface disturbance on a per well basis, meaning that these wells are the least intrusive of all the drilling options.

Packers Plus open hole completion technology offers multi-lateral options to reduce surface impact while utilizing proven technology to optimize well production. With over 330 multi-laterals wells (670 legs) completed to date, Packers Plus has proven that successful completion technology will consider the impact to the environment, without sacrificing production.

Open Hole Multi-Stage Fracturing

Packers Plus StackFRAC® open hole, multi-stage system technology reduces the amount of treatment fluid used for fracture stimulation compared to the conventional cemented liner, “plug and perf” method. This is because it allows the multi-stage fracture treatments to be pumped in a continuous operation, which results in less water usage between stages

One operator using the plug and perf method for a 15 stage job in the Marcellus used approximately 6,700 bbl (1,070 m3) of water to flush each stage with two wellbore volumes in order to pump down bridge plugs and perf guns. The amount of water saved with the OHMS system is equal to the water usage for a four person family for 1.5 years. Because Packers Plus OHMS systems do not require bridge plugs and perf guns, they save on the upfront and post production costs of the extra water needed for the plug and perf method.
