Geothermal Challenge

A leading Australian geothermal company needed extreme high temperature completion tools to repair one of their injection wells in the deep granite formations of the Cooper Basin. These formations are some of the hottest anywhere in the world making them ideal for development of a large-scale geothermal electricity project. The challenge they brought to Packers Plus was to design completion tools capable of withstanding 600°F and 10,000 psi.

Geothermal Solution

Packers Plus successfully designed, prototyped, tested and delivered the new Inferno completion tools a mere six months from the initial meetings. To achieve this, a product design team was rallied including representatives from Engineering, Technical Services and Manufacturing departments, with the Houston Rapid Tool Development Center serving as headquarters.

The unique installation sequence required to repair the geothermal well further challenged the technical expertise of the Packers Plus team. Facing exceptional downhole conditions, the team offered outstanding support to the client, who shared the commitment to excellence. The team successfully repaired the well in preparation for hydraulic stimulation, which resulted in a three-fold increase in fracture conductivity.
